Do you know a family caregiver deserving of $10,000 and the title of National Family Caregiver of the Year? Homewatch CareGivers and the National Family Caregivers Association (NFCA) are cosponsoring the National Family Caregiver of the Year award.

Nomination Rules:

1. The nominations for the caregiver award must be submitted by a third party, such as a nurse, doctor, support group leader, friend or family member.

2. Nominations must be received by July 29, 2011.

3. The nominee must have provided care for this individual within the 12 months prior to July 29, 2011.

4. Local winners will be announced September 1, 2011. Local winners qualify for the National Family Caregiver of the Year Award $10,000 Grand Prize, to be notified on October 25, 2011.

5. Homewatch CareGivers will provide a donation of $5 to National Family Caregivers Association (not to exceed $5,000) for every valid, complete, unique nomination submitted via the web nomination form.

6. Local winners will receive a free day of respite care and a scholarship to Homewatch CareGivers University, which will give the educational foundation, skill set and confidence to continue this very important labor of love. Homewatch CareGivers University is a professionally developed caregiver training platform designed to train our caregiver employees, family members providing care, and the greater caregiver community.

Care.com launched its “Guest Blogger Contest 2011 Theme: Tell Us Your Story.”

To enter, submit a blog entry of 500 or fewer words about yourself including information about your family, your care strategy, whether you are a care provider or a family needing care, the highs and lows of a typical day, and your approach to getting through daily hurdles to carestory@care.com 7:00 am Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 and ends at 7:00 am EST on Tuesday, June 28, 2011.

The winner will receive $250.00 and a one-year Premium membership to Care.com beginning in August 2011 and ending July 2012. The winner will also receive the opportunity to write four blog posts that will be posted on the Care.com site.

The Shire BRAVE Awards recognizes individual non-healthcare professionals who serve as caregivers, and offers $10,000 USD (or the local currency equivalent to each award recipient). Nominations are being accepted at www.ShireBRAVEAwards.com between June 15 and August 31, 2011 and winners will be announced in November 2011.

The nomination process makes it easy to submit a caregiver for consideration:

3.     Complete the online nomination form, which requires nominators to share the story of a caregiver believed to be worthy of a BRAVE Award

Through this program, Shire will honor as many as ten caregivers – defined as individuals who provide regular, consistent care for another person.  A Selection Committee consisting of Shire and non-Shire employees will choose the finalists, and all Shire employees across the world will be invited to help select the winners.  This year, the program is open to eligible nominees in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
